Stone: Manufactured Thin Veneer
Manufactured thin veneer stone will offer alternatives to standard veneer stone:
First, the product is not weight bearing. When one is considering manufactured thin stone veneer, the installation should not require the use of added foundational support. This means that in many applications where standard stone veneer is not possible, manufactured thin stone veneer is possible.
Manufactured thin stone veneer is usually packaged in boxes, sometimes in bulk. Because more face footage can be shipped per pallet than standard stone veneer, the transportation costs will drop considerably when compared to standard stone veneer. Lower shipping costs and ease of transportation also mean better access to a variety of products.
Manufactured thin stone veneer is usually made from concrete and lightweight aggregates. The color is baked through, so the stone should never be fade or discolor. Because it is a manufactured product, the process is controlled from start to finish with less waste than natural thin veneer stone and standard veneer stone. As a result the cost of manufactured thin veneer stone is often less expensive than either of those two options.
Manufactured thin veneer stone is less costly to install than standard veneer stone. This is another area where manufactured thin veneer stone will provide cost savings. It is much easier to cut or chisel concrete that is 1" to 3" than a stone that is 3" to 5". The installation of manufactured thin veneer stone will also be quicker.
